The Batana Ecomuseum was established in 2003 in cooperation between heritage professionals and the local community and is dedicated to preserving the maritime heritage associated with the traditional fishing boat Batana (The Batana Ecomuseum, 2025). This community-run project emphasizes the sustainable use of cultural resources and has become a model for ecomuseology.

Key aspects of the Batana Ecomuseum include:
- Community involvement: the ecomuseum involves local residents in decision-making processes, ensuring that preservation efforts are in line with community values and knowledge.
- Sustainable tourism: By promoting environmentally friendly tourism, the ecomuseum introduces visitors to traditional maritime practices while minimizing environmental impact.
- Cultural education: Through workshops, exhibitions and events, the ecomuseum raises awareness of the importance of preserving cultural and natural heritage.
In recognition of its effective conservation practices, the Batana Ecomuseum was included in the UNESCO's Register of Good Safeguarding Practices in 2016.
