Strandagaldur ses is an non-profit institution which main goal is to have positive input on the local society by strengthening the area as a desireable destination and to lead and cooperate in researches in folklore and history. In the first years a folklorist was working at the institution on researches but when puplic funds got cut the office was closed. The University of Iceland opened this office again few years later so now we have University research center in Hólmavík thanks to initiative of Strandagaldur. The main work of the institution is to manage the exhibiton on icelandic witchcraft and the history of the witchcraze in Iceland. The exhibition is in two locations, main one in Hólmavík and then open air exhibition in Bjarnarfjörður, 33km north of Hólmavík. The institution holds out 3,5 jobs annually, attracts up to 19 thousand guests yearly and is the only museum/exhibition in Westfjords that is open the whole year. The institution also publishes books on icelandic witchcraft and folklore. Strandagaldur has worked with artists and others in creative fields who seek inspiration from the history, stories
and information about magic.
