Pathways

Work Package 2 (WP2) of the NICHE2 project focuses on uncovering and supporting the entrepreneurial potential of professionals and organizations in the Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) sector. As the world shifts towards green, digital, and sustainable economies, WP2 plays a key role in aligning ICH with these transformative pathways—known as the Twin Transition.

Training

Building on the insights gathered through WP2, NICHE 2 Training focuses on designing, developing, and delivering an innovative, multilingual training curriculum tailored to the needs of Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) professionals across Europe. This curriculum equips ICH operators with green, digital, and entrepreneurial skills to navigate the Twin Transition—the shift toward sustainable and digital economies, expanding previously developed NICHE Training.

Manifesto

Through the development of the NICHE2 Manifesto, a concise, actionable policy document designed to inform and inspire decision-makers on how to support the green, digital, and inclusive transformation of the ICH sector, and a targeted valorisation strategy, WP5 cements NICHE2’s legacy and sets the stage for a broader, more connected European ICH network. The NICHE2 Manifesto isn’t just a final report—it’s a call to action. It's a framework for long-term change, grounded in field experience and powered by people who believe in the cultural, social, and environmental value of Intangible Cultural Heritage. By aligning ICH with green, digital, and inclusive futures, NICHE2’s impact is just beginning.

EU official papers confirm that Intangible Cultural Heritage is crucially important for socio-economic development:

  • Council of EU “Conclusions on Cultural Heritage as a Strategic Resource for a Sustainable EU”
  • EU Commission “Towards an Integrated Approach to Cultural Heritage for EU”
  • EU Commission “Getting Cultural Heritage to Work for EU”

ICH is more important for the EU economy than the entire automotive sector: over 300,000 people work in the EU cultural heritage sector. Almost 8 million jobs in the EU are indirectly linked to heritage (tourism, interpretation, security). For each direct job, the heritage sector produces 26.7 indirect jobs. This compares with 6.3 indirect jobs created for each direct job in the car industry.
